Alabama Coastal Triathlon honored as 2024 Champion of Economic Impact in Sports Tourism by Sports Destination Management

GULF SHORES AND ORANGE BEACH, ALA. – Sports Destination Management, the leading publication with the largest circulation of sports event planners and tournament directors in the sports tourism market, has announced the 2024 Champions of Economic Impact in Sports Tourism. This year’s winners are responsible for contributing a more-than-welcome boost of over $1.88 billion to the national economy over the past year.

Among the winners was the Brett/Robinson Alabama Coastal Triathlon, owned and operated by Alabama’s Beaches Sports & Events and produced by Magic Sports in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

“The Alabama Coastal Triathlon is one of our signature annual events, and to be honored for the collective work that goes into making this race a reality each year is icing on the cake,” said Michelle Russ, vice president of sales, sports and events at Alabama’s Beaches Sports & Events. “We could not put on this amazing event without the support of our title sponsor Brett/Robinson Vacations and race management company Magic Sports.”

The September 2024 Alabama Coastal Triathlon produced 865 room nights and $468,048 in economic impact during an otherwise slower time for the market post-Labor Day. This year’s race welcomed 455 first-time participants (55%) and 166 first-time triathletes (20%).
