What Can I Expect to Catch Offshore?
When you go bluewater fishing in Alabama's Gulf Coast, either through a fishing charter or deep-sea fishing, you have a chance to land some of the best gamefish around, including:
- Snapper - plentiful and great eating
- Yellowfin tuna - popular fish to target, renowned for its flavor
- Blackfin tuna - will take your bait deep when hooked
- Grouper - prefers deep water near natural or manmade structures
- Wahoo - a fast-swimming fighter
If you're in search of the trophy photo of a lifetime, blue marlin is the king of game fish and can be found in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores. Its smaller leaping cousin, white marlin, is also found in the deep Gulf waters along with the tail-dancing Atlantic sailfish. Check out our seasonal fishing page.
What Can I Expect to Catch Inshore?
The sun rising over the tranquil waters of the back bays offers a different and equally thrilling fishing experience. Anglers exploring the coastal bays and estuaries are likely to encounter:
- Speckled and white trout - ferocious in attacking baits
- Flounder - found near piers and structures
- Redfish - prized shallow water fighting game fish
- Mackerel - plentiful warm water coastal fish
- Cobia/Crab eaters - migratory fish caught just off the beaches.
If you're in search of a real fishing story, go after barracuda. These are fierce fighters with teeth to match: making for a promising battle between man and fish.
